Katapult Ocean

Program: Ocean-focused business accelerator program. The sectors covered are transportation, ocean health, harvesting, energy and new frontiers (e.g. floating cities). Provides startups with a 3-month intensive program and connections into Northern European industry.

Deadline: First cohort currently underway, next application period currently open, closing in August 2019

Funding: $150k in funding for 8% equity ($50k of that is deducted for the cost of the program)

Location: Oslo, Norway. Companies need to be in residence during program

Ocean Exchange

Program:  Ocean Exchange is a competition for solutions in ocean-related innovation. There are 3 awards: Orcelle and Neptune for growth stage startups and the Big Pitch competition for university teams. Finalists present in front of an invite-only audience of global leaders in October.

Deadline: 2019 - Not yet open

Cost: Nominal registration fee

Funding: Non-equity prizes - typically $100k for the Orcelle and Neptune, $10k for the Big Pitch. Travel expenses covered.

Techstars Sustainability Accelerator, in partnership with The Nature Conservancy

Program:  Accelerator focused on sustainability – they are looking for for-profit entrepreneurs with commercially viable technologies that can rapidly scale to help sustainably provide food and water and address global issues like climate change. Generally, Techstars looks for well-balanced teams, and is company-stage agnostic (no limits on prior funding). 

Deadline: April 7, 2019

Funding: 6% common stock equity for the program. $100k optional convertible note and $20K stipend. Access to almost $3M of credits and perks such as cash equivalent hosting, accounting and, legal support.

PortXL

Program: B2B maritime accelerator, with focus on energy, shipping & logistics, ports and refinery. They seek startups with an MVP/prototype that is scalable and seeking pilot projects or companies that are already in the market and looking for new customers. They run a 3-month program with focus on market validation / customers.

Deadline: 2019 cohort for Rotterdam and Singapore is closed. Antwerp is open.

Funding: Equity investment

Location: Rotterdam, Netherlands is the main location. Also have local regional programs in Antwerp and Singapore. Companies need to be in residence during program

Sustainable Ocean Alliance Accelerator {Deadline Approaching}

Program: Accelerator that seeks startups with a focus on improving ocean health. They run an 8-week program that includes an 8-day ‘Accelerator at Sea’ expedition to Alaska, founder dinners, networking events, site visits, workshops, and speaker series.

Deadline: Currently accepting applications through March 31

Funding: $25,000 equity investment

Program: Accelerator that connects growth-stage startups to customers with fishing fleets interested in pursuing pilot projects. Seeking pilot-ready technologies in areas including; enhanced navigation, fishing gear, seafood quality, automation, traceability, aquaculture

Deadline: 2019 search for startups underway. Apply now through end of March

Cost: No cost to participate other than travel expenses

Funding: No direct investment into the startup. Ability to get pilot projects co-funded with their corporate partners

Location: Anywhere. Many events in Spain & clients for pilots are largely European

CleanTech Open

Program: Annual business accelerator and prize for cleantech companies. Provides a 12-week entrepreneurship course, including a set of mentors, networking and investor showcase opportunities

Deadline: 2019 not yet open

Cost: $30-50 Application fee. Program cost is $975-1350 plus any travel expenses 

Funding: Up to $75,000 in cash investment to prize winners, and $50,000 in-kind services.

Location: Regions throughout the US and globally. US Finals take place in Boston, New York or California

MassChallenge {Deadline Approaching}

Program: Annual business accelerator and prize for companies of all industries located in regions where MassChallenge in active & that have raised less than $500K in equity-based funding, generated less than $1M in revenue. They provide up to $3M in prizes globally each year, access to free co-working space during the 4-month program, mentors, partners and investors in their networks.

Deadline: 2019 applications now open, Deadline is March 13th

Cost: $45-90 Application fee.

Funding: Non-equity prizes for winning companies

Braid Theory – Ignite 22 Challenge {Deadline Approaching}

Program: Braid Theory is searching for startups in microbiomes, aquaculture, supply chain and marine IoT to apply for their program of mentorship and speaking at the IGNITE22 Conference in LA. The ten selected finalists will have the opportunity to pitch to investors and corporations, followed by 6 days of coaching to refine the pitch and and 4 winners will be selected to receive on-going support from Braid Theory, and one winner will be eligible for a a prize (TBD) and the ability to pitch at the Ignite 22 conference in Nov.

Deadline: March 15

Cost: No cost, other than any travel expenses to LA in April & November
